Sinatra, Frank
|
Frank grew up in New Jersey and started out as a saloon singer in little dives. After that, he got work as a band singer, first with the Hoboken Four and then with Harry Janes and Tommy Dorsey. He got the nickname such as "The Voice". In 1942 he started his solo career. About the same time, Frank began his film career. He was a natural actor who was best at playing parts that mirrored his own personality.
He won an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1953. Frank continued to give strong and memorable performances in films such as " The Man with the Golden Arm" in 1955 and "Suddenly" in 1954. His last lead role was as the aging detective in "The First Deadly Sin" in 1980. He gave a moving performance in what would be the finale to his long and rich career.
Sinatra's music is a staple of Studio 1430 and if you are a Sinatra fan you don't want to miss "The Sounds of Sinatra" 4-6PM Sundays on Studio 1430.
Best known for: "Come Rain or Come Shine", "Let's Fall in Love", "I've got you under my skin", and "Witchcraft".
