Como, Perry
|
Pierino Ronaldo “Perry” Como was born on May 18,1912 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. He was of Italian decent and although he liked to sing, Perry had dreams of becoming a successful barber. After graduating from high school, Perry married and bought a barbershop. It was at this time that he started singing with Freddy Carlone’s Band in Ohio. In 1942, Como performed on CBS for many years. However in missing his family and his first love in cutting hair, Como decided to move back to Pennsylvania to his family and his barbershop.
When he was about to retire from singing, two NBC executives offered him an appearance singing on the Supper Club. This led him to become a great night club and theatre performer. Como was also the first recording artist to have 10 albums that sold over 1 million copies each.
Best known for: ‘Catch a Falling Star”, “ And I Love You So”, and “It’s impossible”
